Tunis/Tunisia — «By vaccinating professionals working in the education, higher education and tourism sectors, we are seeking to secure a proper organisation of national exams and the tourist season,» said Health Director-General Faisal Ben Salah.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony to receive a new shipment of 256,000 doses of COVID-19 “Pfizer” vaccines at Tunis-Carthage airport, Ben Salah told TAP each ministry should set its own vaccination goals and the Health Ministry will meet the needs of the various sectors.

He added that the decision to vaccinate primary and secondary schools teachers was made after receiving requests by the Education Ministry in joint agreement with its partners so as to secure successful organization of national examinations. This was also the same for the vaccination of security and tourism and transport personnel, which are vital sectors.

Vaccinating professionals in vital sectors is not in contradiction with the national vaccination strategy which prioritizes the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases, Ben Salah pointed out, adding that the goal is to reduce death rates and severe infections.

«The Prime Ministry is coordinating with all relevant ministries and the Health Ministry,» he further indicated.
